David came out the better, going to a lead of 10 to minus 1 and then after 12 ends had stretched it out to 15-0 with superb draw bowls. David was making it hard for Dan and by end 18 had gone out to a lead of 24-3. Dan then staged a mini come-back to be trailing 11-25 after 22 ends. David then turned it on again, jumping to 28-11. Finally, after 27 beautiful draw bowl ends, David tasted victory to the tune of 31-13 to be Handicap Singles Champion for the year.
Congratulations David, commiserations Dan.
Note: David won 15 ends, Dan won 12. David with one four and 4 threes proved to be the difference.
The next match was the final of the Minor Singles, with C Peardon doing battle with B Stanley. Not to be out-done by the previous game, these two bowlers definitely turned up to play. Boyd jumped and went to a 7-2 lead after four ends and continued on with it, racing out to a formidable lead of 18-5 after 12 ends.
It was at this stage (some might have buckled) that Cameron stuck it to Boyd, scoring on five consecutive ends to close the gap to 13-18. Boyd then returned the favour, scoring on the next four ends; score reading 24-13 to Boyd.
Cameron came again and with draw bowls the norm, had inched his way back to be trailing 22-25 after 26 ends. By end 28 the score was reading 26-24 to Boyd and, with three consecutive ends, Boyd was on the cusp leading 29-24. With four expertly delivered bowls on end 32, Cameron was back to be trailing 28-29.
Now it was anyone’s game. End 33 saw Boyd draw the two shots required, thus taking out this epic battle defeating Cameron by 31-28.
Congratulations Boyd on becoming Minor Singles Champion (welcome to the Majors). Commiserations to Cameron.
Of the 33 ends played, Boyd won 19 and Cameron won 14.
Both of these games were played in the right spirit, superbly executed bowls were witnessed by all. Definitely Finals material. Great day, great bowls and great drink service.
