Wow what a month it has been for some of our polocrosse members. Three weeks ago, four of our members and their support teams travelled to Darwin for the National Polocrosse championships. They represented the State in their respective age categories.

Sam Finlayson and Jock Grills were in the boys’ junior team and went into what I believe was a nail biting final against Queensland, and came out victors by two goals. Abby Finlayson was selected in the sub junior second team and played hard and caught a few by surprise by the level of their skills. Charlie Holcombe played in the intermediates (uncertain of results).
To top it off Jock Grills and his horse Trenton Bo Derek received the Champion Australian Stock Horse award.
Congratulations to our members for reaching this level, you did yourselves proud!
On another note, ex-member, Abbott Grills, son of Roger and Lou, took out several prestigious awards. They included champion horse and rider combination, champion Australian Stock Horse, overall champion men’s player and overall champion horse of the carnival. What an effort a big congratulations to Abbott!!
This weekend and the following weekend will see a couple more of our kids in representative teams. Jack Mckemey and Tim Finlayson will travel to Narrabri and Warren to play for NSW against a team of juniors all the way from the USA. We hope they have fun and enjoy the experience.
On a local level, our polocrosse has been quiet this year with a number of carnivals cancelled. In saying that, John and Pip, the Finlayson’s and Mckemey all travelled to Albury for the junior classic. Seven of the ten kids were picked to play in NSW teams, a great effort!
Sophie Mckemey and Abby Finlayson also travelled to Sydney to play at the show. Their team came out winners and Abby received an encouragement award and Sophie’s horse Banjo received Best ASH.
At the club championships, a team consisting of Jock Grills, John Grills, Jake Rosten, Matt Grills, Charlie Holcombe and Sam Holcombe, came home with the B grade winners trophy and Matt, John and Charlie received best numbers (apologies if this is slightly incorrect).
Last weekend our newest and youngest member, Mac Finlayson (son of Graeme and Sally) played his first carnival at Pallamallawa. Mac came home with his grin bigger than normal, winning the memorial subbies award for his total enjoyment of the game. A new swag was what he took home for his efforts. No doubt we will see Graeme and Sally around the carnivals a lot more from now on.
Congratulations to all of our members on all of their achievements, big and small!!
