It is recommended that persons over the age of 40 participate in the program and take a test every year.
You may be aware that Bowel Cancer is the most common internal cancer affecting Australians and that by the age of 75, 1 in 20 men and 1 in 24 women will develop Bowel Cancer.
We are advised that 90% of bowel cancer can be cured if detected early which is why we recommend an annual test.
The program is designed so that invisible blood from internal bleeding polyps and cancers may be detected by use of a simple and inexpensive chemical test as supplied in the BowelScan program.
The Bowelscan kit is available from the Guyra Pharmacy for a month commencing 1 May and its use has now been simplified. There is now NO need for special dieting. The kit will cost $12 each of which $1 goes to our local Rotary Club for use in to medical research.
What to do?
1. Purchase the kit from Guyra Pharmacy for $12
2. Fill in the registration card
3. Follow the instructions contained in the kit in the convenience of your own home
4. As the kit is time critical, complete and return the kit to the Guyra Pharmacy within 5 days of the first specimen collection. Remember there is no special dieting required
5. Return the completed test kit to the Guyra
Pharmacy
6. You will be notified of the test result.
The Rotary Club will deliver the completed kits to Armidale Hospital Pathology Labs at least twice weekly.
Take care of your health and do yourself a favour. Don’t wait until you see signs of bleeding from the bowel, act now.
PS. The old style test kits have been superceded and should be destroyed.
