A stopover in Guyra on Wednesday by the Small biz Bus has hit the mark with locals looking for business advice. Bus host Tara Austin said that the response to the visit had been overwhelming, with a full schedule of appointments on the day and bookings being made for a follow up visit in a couple of weeks.

“There have been a variety of reasons for people visiting today,” she said. “Some are looking for start-up advice, while others are seeking advice on marketing and building their existing business.”
One person who welcomed the opportunity to get some expert advice was Zoe Hannan. Zoe is a personal trainer who operates ‘4ever Health and Fitness’ from her base in Tingha. She said she was looking for fresh ideas and appreciated the opportunity to speak with business advisor Mike Creagan from the Armidale Business Enterprise Centre (BEC).
“Mike has helped me to come up with some fresh ideas about how to expand,” she said. “He has also encouraged me to look at new ideas and try some different approaches and I now have some different things to think about.”
Zoe has worked as an instructor with the Healthy Highlanders program in Tingha and runs group classes both there and in Inverell. She also offers small group personal training and may look to expand into Guyra if the demand is there.
Mr Creagan has a background in small business and Human Resource Management and said that Zoe is a perfect example of ‘what we do’.
“We work with people to come up with new ideas that they can work with and offer ongoing support,” he said. “It’s not just about today – we will follow up to see how they are getting on.”
He said that they had not anticipated the response and could well have had a second advisor on hand to meet the demand.
“We will be back in Guyra in in a few weeks and anyone who missed out can contact the BEC in Armidale to arrange a visit or get advice over the phone.”
