The recognition of the site owes much to Mavis Richards who documented the school’s history in a book which was published in 2013.
The signs, which were erected on March 6, were made by the Guyra Men’s Shed with materials donated by Guyra Shire Council.
Mrs Richards was extremely pleased with the help she received and would like to thank all those involved in the making and installation of the signs.
Thanks go to John Jackson, Shawn Taylor, Graham McKay and Paul Fleming who made the signs and Peter King who painted the lettering by hand. Mrs Richards would also like to thank Paul Little from Guyra Shire Council for his assistance and Paul Schuman, David Leitinger and John Fenton who erected the signs.
The signs can now been seen on the left hand side of the road 7km east of Tingha marking the spot where the Chellas School stood.
The site was chosen with the help of Tingha resident and Guyra deputy mayor Audrey McArdle, and Mavis said she hoped to meet all the people involved in the project and thank them personally.
