After good rain around much of the district spirits were lifted, and the 106th Guyra Show was the perfect place to celebrate and demonstrate the resilience of the local community.

The official opening was performed on Friday night by show stalwart Graham White who shared the memories of a long association with the event.
As part of the official ceremony, 2014 Guyra Showgirl Jess Grills was presented with her sash by last year’s representative Courtney Ross and Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall.
Mr Marshall also cut a ribbon to mark the official opening of the new storage facilities in the community hall.
Show Society President Chris Sole said after a slow start on Friday, a big crowd on Saturday boosted the overall attendance figures which were up on the previous year.
“The weather was sensational – we couldn’t have asked for more with rain leading up to the event and then then a couple of fine days.”
“I was happy overall with how everything went and the way the committee worked together,” he said. “It was good to have the shearing back which drew the crowds and also the yard dog trials proved a hit.”
“Things went smoothly and apart from a couple of issues that cropped up, it was a great success.”
Mr Sole said that there were good entries across the board with huge numbers in the cattle section which goes from strength to strength and the wool display gets bigger and better each year.
“It was also pleasing to see the return of the sheep section which was well supported and we hope to see this expand in the future,” he said.
“What makes a great show is the great people and the whole event is a credit to the volunteers who work behind the scenes in the ring, behind the bar and BBQ, in the pavilion and many other areas who make the Show the success that it is.”
While the wool display dominated the pavilion, there were good entries over all areas. It was pleasing to note an increase in junior entries in the needlework section, with a record of 28 entries delighting organisers who have worked to build numbers over recent years.
