23 Aug 10 | I thank Lois Mitchell for last week’s letter to the editor as it provides another opportunity for me to clarify Council’s position regarding the proposed amalgamation of Guyra Shire, Uralla Shire and Armidale Dumaresq Council.
23 Aug 10 | In March 2004 the Barraba Shire was amalgamated one third into Gwyder Shire and two thirds into the Tamworth Regional Council. In March 2004 Barraba Shire employed 44 staff and in 2010 the Barraba branch now employs approximately 22 staff.
23 Aug 10 | The huge turnout of Guyra Shire residents to the meeting at the Bowling Club on Friday night was indicative of the strong feeling of the community to oppose any amalgamation of the Shire with surrounding councils.

28 Jun 10 | I am utterly disgusted with the announcement made by the Minister for Local Government, the Honourable Miss Barbara Perry that Guyra Shire should be amalgamated with Armidale and Uralla Shire Councils.
28 Jun 10 | It is not too late to prevent the decision to amalgamate the Guyra Shire going ahead.
28 Jun 10 | It is with a heavy heart that we read that Guyra Shire will shortly cease to exist. It is hard to argue that small shires can successfully survive in the era of rate pegging, increasing costs and the continued transfer of activities from State and Federal Governments to the local government sector.
28 Jun 10 | I would greatly appreciate your very kind help in locating a friend of mine from the ‘60s. Her name was Annette Scanlan. We met in Darwin in 1965.
