A pleasant, cloudy day greeted 78 golfers from Armidale, Walcha, Uralla and Guyra on Tuesday, 9th February. The shotgun start worked well. After the golf Donna and David prepared a barbeque lunch for the hungry golfers. The salad was provided by the Guyra Ladies. Thank you all.

The longest drive for the lady golfers on the 8th hole was won by Guyra’s Patti Hill. On the 17th hole Rowan Chandler from Uralla hit the longest ball. Nearest the pin on the 6th hole was John Prisk of Guyra. Greg Doolan of Armidale Blue was nearest the pin on the 7th hole and an ex-Guyra resident Ray Honnery was nearest the pin on the 18th Hole. Walcha provided the nearest the pin on the 9th hole when J. Poole was the winner.

Patti Hill won the lady Division with 40 stableford points from L Faulkner of Uralla. Division 2 of the men’s competition was won by A Vivers of Armidale Blue with 40 points. Runner-up came down to a countback between Guyra players Tom Crozier and Pat Grills and this was won by Pat. A Carson of Uralla won Division 1 with 41 stableford points from T Redden, also from Uralla with 39 points. The best scorers for Guyra were Patti Hill 40, Pat Grills and Tom Crozier 39 each, Warren McCowen 38 and Don Hill, Jack Swerdlow 37 each.

Thank you to the sponsors Inverell Aggregate and Guyra Tomato Exchange. Winners appreciated the thoughtful prizes arranged by Nancy Prisk and her team. Thank You to Kerry Bull and her team as they recorded the details of the day. Another big thank you to Bruce Thomson and his team for the organisation which led to a very enjoyable day of golf for all participants.

The team competition turned out to be a closely fought match. Walcha recorded 237 points, Armidale Green 247, Guyra 255, Armidale Blue, 257 and leading team at the quarter way mark was Uralla 260 points. .

The second Pennants Round will be played in Uralla on Tuesday, March 25 and will be followed by Armidale in May and Walcha in June..

Guyra Open Days will be held on Monday, March 8 and Tuesday March 9. The Club is hoping to attract big fields on both days.
