Veterans Golf Welcome to 2010!

Members please note that the Veteran Golfers have been rostered to assist at the Guyra Lamb and Potato Festival from 8.00am to 2.00pm on Monday, January 18, 2010. Anyone able to help please attend the catering block at these times. The more helpers we have the better it is for everyone.

Play over December 2009 saw good fields with 24 players on the 15th and 16 on the 22nd. Wet weather on the 29th saw only social play. A stableford event on the 15th resulted in Tom Crozier winning with 43 points from Dominic Hill on 42 points. Pat Grills won the nine hole best with 24 points and was nearest the pin on the seventh hole. Narelle Leven was nearest the pin on the ninth hole and Ron Leven was nearest on the 18th hole. Dominic Hill was the best putter with 28 putts. Mother and son, Patti and Dominic Hill, dominated play on the 22nd with Dominic defeating his Mother on a 39 point countback to win the event. Patti was runner-up. Jack Swerdlow’s 18 points for nine holes gave him the best 9 hole score. Nearest the pins were won by Patti Hill on the ninth, Dominic Hill on the 10th and Brian McLeod on the 18th hole. Margaret Forsythe’s 26 putts for 18 holes was the best putting of the day. Dominic Hill, Margaret Forsythe, Bruce Thomson and Warren McCowen each putted 14 times over 9 holes. So ended 2009!

2010 Annual Competition began on January 5 when an 18 hole stableford event was played by 22 golfers. Welcome to Connor Reeves and Jayden Towells. It was our pleasure to have the Australian under 12 years Champion Connor returning to his home course for the day. Five players chipped in for a no putt hole – David Bearup on the first hole, Jayden Towells and Connor Reeves on the third hole, Judy Wicks on the 5th and Warren McCowen on the 12th. Four points on one hole were scored by John Williams, Warren McCowen, Gus Brazier, Bruce Thomson, Doug Archibald, Nancy Prisk, Jayden Towells, Narelle Leven and Max Skinner. John Prisk was nearest the pin on the 7th and Connor Reeves on the 10th and 18th. Best putting for 9 holes was 12 by Judy Wicks, Warren McCowen and Bruce Thomson. For 18 holes John Williams, Barnie McKinnon and Warren McCowen each putted 27 times. Barnie won the draw from the hand. John Prisk’s 83 was the best stroke score. Doug Archibald had the best 9 hole score with 22 stableford points. John Prisk’s 38 gave him the runner-up prize. With 39 points John Williams was a deserving winner,

The first Pennants match between Armidale, Uralla, Walcha and Guyra will be played in Guyra on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 and the Guyra Veteran Golf Open Days will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 and Tuesday, March 9 2010.
