It was tough going for the ladies of league tag on the Red Hill against the Uralla Pussies winning 3-2.

The Spudettes remain at the top of the table with plenty of contenders ready to knock them off. The Pussies were quite aggressive in all forms of the word on Sunday, but the Spudettes never backed down. Words were spat from both sides and it didn’t take long for the Spudettes to grind dirt into the faces of the Pussies with two tries in the first half from Hayley Ford and Emily Davis.

The Spudettes defence was a bit scrappy towards the end of the first half and into the start of the second, which cost them as Uralla got through scoring two easy tries.

But with two minutes remaining Sharaya managed to slip through the guard of the Pussies to score the winning try.

Jess Bokeyer was a stand out on the day, talking it up to the girls and setting up a couple of break throughs, which gave her three points and three referee points. Braidy Simpson managed a magic game earning her players player for the day.

“If the girls are to win against a tough Glen Innes side next week then they are going to have to really pull themselves together as a team,” says coach Jeff Richardson.

Points went to Katie 3, Hayley 2, Heidi 1 and Emily Davis with one ref point.

Under 18’s

The Super Spuds took on Uralla at the Red Hill winning the match 52-6 playing a well disciplined first half. The first try came from Jimmy running it off from the scrum. Second try went to Ethan Kennedy scooting over, and then Jimmy Williams got a good ball from Ike Roberts to score.

Strong running from Simon Porter and Mike Kelly saw them both collect a try at the end of the half. Jimmy crossed for his hat trick with the score 30-0 at half time.

In the second half the juniors had a bit of dropped ball, which saw Uralla score a well deserved try. The Super Spuds tries came from Tom Burey, Ben Vidler with a double and Will Porter scored his first try. Ben and Ike got three conversions each.

“We were happy with the win, all the players went good, thanks to Tom Kennedy and Ty Archibald for backing up from 160,” Russell said.

“But we have to stick to our patterns because we have some tough games coming up.”

Points: Jamie Williams 3, Ben Vidler 2, Colin Gordon 1. Ref: Ben Vidler 3, Ethan Kennedy 2. Players Player Jamie Williams.

This weekend Guyra play Glen Innes at Glen on Saturday with the action starting at 11am.

Presidents Cup

Guyra Presidents Cup went head to head with the in form Uralla Tigers in a wet weather slog out match on a very wet Red Hill. Guyra were out of the Blocks early with a converted try through some busting sets of six. By half time Guyra were sitting good on the scoreboard after a super first half. The second half saw the Super Spud with some cracking defence which got them through to win the 20-10.

The Spuds had some standouts, with Oran Surwaski not taking a backward step, the halves directing play well and Vince Blair cutting the legs from under the big blokes. Let’s hope we can keep this roll on against Glen Innes this week.
