Mens Bowls

29 Jun, 2009 02:49 PM
This weekend saw the beginning of the Alex Jackson Open Winter Singles with four games played.

Three games were played on Saturday June 20, despite the weather conditions, the bowlers that braved the wind and rain proved that bowls are alive in the Guyra Bowling Club, they put on a display of consistent draw bowls along with precision drives to entertain a small but dedicated group of supporters.

The results were: B Walls defeated I Reid 31 – 9 over 26 ends. In this game Barry never at any stage let Ivil settle into the contest, however the score did not indicate the closeness of this game. S Sole defeated B Sole 31 – 23 over 28 ends. Braden went out to an early lead but it only took six ends for the wily paper man to gain the upper hand. Steven held his advantage but received a number of frights as Braden closed to within one shot on the 18th end however Steven knuckled down and went on to win. C Kliendienst defeated S Beechey 31 – 22 over 33 ends. This game gave the entertainment of the afternoon with both players not willing to give the other any time to relax, by driving the shot bowl out on a number of occasions and killing the end. Shane managed to close the gap to be only two shots behind on end 26 but it was at this time that Chris regained his composure and went on to win.

Sunday June 21 saw only one game played when Dan Kennedy defeated W Reeves 31 –12 over 22 ends. This game was played in less than ideal conditions but there was a humorous side to the afternoon. The player concerned took to Quality Testing his bowls attire. He discovered that his bowls trousers did not quite stand up to the constant bending and straightening resulting in the seam failing, bit breezy.

The match committee would like to thank all bowlers for playing over the weekend.
