Junior Soccer

29 Jun, 2009 01:52 PM
Several of our under 9 and 10 year old players attended a soccer clinic held in Armidale last Tuesday. The clinic is the first step hopefully for these players to be included next year in the Southern Development League. The players will have the opportunity to hone their skills under the highly qualified German Coach Mr Holger Shue. Some of the kids came home a little dazed by the lift in intensity but will certainly benefit from this level of training.

A little misunderstanding perhaps last week in this column, meant to say the Queen Bee of Guyra Soccer, leading all her workers with loving kindness. Ah yes that reminds me, please do not forget the working bee to replace the fence around the top soccer field, to be held on the 11th, 18th and 25th of July.

Well another bracing Saturday morning with some great soccer being played by our junior sides. The under 6 Possums played some great soccer this week but unfortunately came away with a 1-0 loss, best for Guyra was Aaliyah Johnston and Bailey King who were awarded joint players of the match. The Leopards won in convincing fashion with a score line of 4-0. Miles Williams and Sam Skipper each with 2 goals. Player of the day was Jake Cook. Well it certainly is nice to have the home ground advantage and this was the case for both the Dragons and the Lions who played each other. The Dragons won this close encounter 2-0 with both sides playing some of their best soccer. For the Dragons player of the match with two goals was Kade Stanley. Best on field for the Lions was Archie Lawrence with this sides defence much improved.

The under 7 Cubs played the bye last Saturday.

Continuing on their winning ways was the under 8 Titans with a 4-0 win. BJ Cameron was player of the match with Lucas Atkin 1, Ella Atkin 1 and Ben Lennon 2 our goal scorers. Playing their best soccer of the season the Roosters had a 4-0 loss. Player of the match for Guyra was Mathew Smith with Nick Graham and Abbie Brazier also playing well.

Under 9 Wombats had a 4 all draw in a very entertaining game. Tom Smith 2, Ryan Field 1, Cody Martin 1 scored for Guyra with Taylah Martin player of the day. Kangaroos came from being down 2 - nil in the first half but won well with a 4-3 score. Jack McKemey was on fire kicking 3 with Thomas Morgan adding 1. Player of the match was Patrick Goodchild.

Playing some great team soccer were the under 10 Cheetahs. This side are really beginning to get the idea of using each other and looking for support. One passage of play had the coach in raptures I am lead to believe. Kyle Stewart scored Guyra’s only goal in their 1-0 win. Playing well for the cheetahs were Brodie Harman, Logan Stanley and Callum Moffat.

Just like the fence which once surrounded their ground (11th, 18th and 25th) the under 12 Sharks went missing in the first half. This team had not played for three weeks and seemed to have totally forgotten how to play. 3-0 down at half time a dressing down via the coach seemed to wake them getting the ledger back to 3 all before a late goal saw them lose 4-3. Austen Youman 2 and Brooke Kirk 1 were awarded joint players of the match. The Ghosts had another good win and seem to be getting better as the year progresses.

The under 14 Dasha’s played more of the same for them this year with an 8-0 win. Tyson Burey 3, Jake McFarlane 2, Adam Lennon 1, Braiden Sole 1 and Mathew Simpson 1. Playing well for Guyra was Teagan reeves. Certainly a well turned out team.

Draw for next week. Under 6; Dragons v DK Royal, Rologas 6 at 0930. Guyra Lions Bye, Guyra Possums v Nth Armidale Spirit, Rologas 8 at 0930. Guyra Leopards v DK Swords, Rologas 5 at 0930. Under 7; Cubs v Tas Tadpoles, Rologas 3 at 1010. Under 8; Tigers v Walcha Wallabies, Nth field 2 at 1100. Roosters v DK Archers, Nth field 5 at 1100. Titan v DK Sorcerettes, Nth field 5 at 1010. Under 9; Kangaroos v Nth Armidale Possums, Jack Vallance 3 at 0930. Wombats v Tas Typhoons, Doody Park 3 (YCW) at 0930. Under 10; Cheetahs v DK Destroyers, Rologas 11 at 1000. Under 12; Ghosts v DK Magic, Jack Vallance 2 at 1000. Guyra Sharks v Nth Armidale Eagles, Rologas 14 at 1000. Under 14; Dasha’s v Nth Armidale Bandicoots, Rologas 1 at 1015.
