Due to the renewed interest in Guyra Senior Cricket a Fourth grade side will now be fielded in the Armidale District Cricket Association competition. This side will complement our already successful Second and Third grade sides. Their first game will be on Saturday November 7 at a field to be confirmed once the draw becomes available. Nomination forms are available from Dasha’s Hardware for players wishing to sign up.
The turf wicket had its first game for the season on Saturday and by all reports it played really well. Thanks must go to Neil Rudd, Eric Reeves and Bob Vidler for their hours of voluntary preparation to achieve this. The field looks a picture with the new fence and is an asset to Guyra.
There will not be a Third grade game this Saturday owing to a forfeit by City last weekend. Following a solid win in round 1 and the points from the forfeit this means Guyra Third grade will be on top of the ladder.
We must thank our sponsors for their continued support with helping rebuild Guyra Senior Cricket toward its former glory. Guyra Bowling and Recreation Club, Elders Guyra, Kirks IGA, Jim Knox, Michael Jackson, Moray Merinos and Cool Country Consulting. More sponsors will be added to the list once our Fourth grade team is finalised.
Guyra Second grade played Armidale City on the turf in Guyra, Guyra batted first and made 254 all out. Tom Skipper had the Guyra innings sailing along with 93, he was ably assisted by Matt Bull 39, Mitchell Woods 31 and Darren Lennon not out 23.
When it was Armidale City’s turn at the crease Maurice Blair in his first game for the year took 5-40, Matt Bull took 3-44, while Steve Brazier took 1-6 and Matt Jackson 1-3.
Guyra then sent Armidale City in for their second innings and the visitors found some form with the bat being 0-86 at stumps on the first day of the two day game.
This weekend Guyra will be looking for a fine day as they go for the outright, all supporters are welcome to watch Guyra’s cricketing resurgence.
