Guyra Pony Club held another successful pony camp last week due to good attendance numbers, fine weather and a fun and efficiently organised camp. 58 junior riders turned up with their mounts on Tuesday 27th December for nearly a week of solid tuition is all areas of equine sports.
Thanks go to our Chief Instructor, Mrs Vicki Light, for arranging competent instructors throughout the duration of camp. Lessons were wide and varied improving the children’s riding skills, confidence, horsemanship and above all providing an enjoyable week. Our thanks go to all the instructors for giving both their knowledge and time. This year a new initiative by our Camp Commandant, Mr Dan McKemey, saw a “boys only” troop to encourage more of the older boys back to pony camp who tend to drift off to other interests before they are teenagers. This was a very successful idea enticing 9 boys, including new visitors from Dorrigo.
The competition in dressage, jumping and camp drafting commenced on Saturday. Thank you to our judges Mrs Kath Townsend, Mr Eric Martin and Mr Graham Finlayson. Congratulations to Jake Rosten for the highest score of the day in the campdraft, Myles Newcombe (associate) from Goomburra, QLD for the highest cut out and Sara Aksey & Georgie Wanford (Armidale) on achieving the highest dressage scores.
