Busy time for bowlers

23 Feb, 2010 10:39 AM
There were three Club Championship games played over the weekend and the results were:

Handicap Singles: Braden Sole (-1) proved to strong for Mick Rusden (0) taking the game 31 – 12 over 26 ends. Braden’s Singles form has continued from last weekend. Col Stanley (-8) returned to form when he defeated Paul Johnson (+3) 31 – 13 over 27 ends. Col showed that he could come from an 11 shot deficit to victory against a bowler in form, if he can keep this form he will be a bowler to be watched. Robert Moore (+8) and Cameron Peardon (+8) did battle and from what I witnessed this game was fiercely contested. Even though there can be only one eventual winner I think both players came winners on the day. The final result was a victory to Robert 31 – 19 over 34 ends.

Thursday night saw a small field but very noisy bowlers play Twilight. It was a pleasure to play on a well-lit green. For the record the overall winners were the rough team of Joan Jackson and Norman Wilson, most of the noise came from their rink, although the other rink run a very close second, all bowlers had a terrific night.

The three Guyra teams that travelled to Armidale City to contest the District Pairs over the weekend, found the opposition a little to consistent on the day. Even though all the Guyra players played consistent bowls of their own, the opposition played that little better.

Club Championships for this weekend:

Saturday February 20: Start: 1.30pm. Starter and Umpire: Dale Smith.

Open Singles: John Jackson to play Barry Walls marker Robert Moore

Handicap Singles: Geoff Reeves to play Ivil Reid marker Dale Smith

Logan Adams to play Andrew Sparke marker Braden Sole.

Bowlers I have been given the programme for Saturday February 27, and it will be Club Triples: Dan Kennedy, Col Stanley and Phil Kliendienst to play David Wilcox, Dale Smith and Adam Bennett. Barry Presnell, Mick Rusden and Cameron Peardon to play John Jackson, Ivil Reid and Geoff Reeves. A message from the match committee: All Club Triples must be played, or forfeit rule will apply. Skips are to ensure that their teams are ready to go and if not they are to find their own substitutes from players available. A Pennant Trial will be held on Sunday February 28, 1.30pm start. No. 7’s to play No. 2’s.

The lights have been fixed and Thursday night twilight bowls are again on the agenda with names to in by 6.00pm. A sheet will be on the notice board for this purpose so come along and enjoy the greens under lights even if you are a novice, the game of bowls begins with a social night out, mufti dress. Pennant bowlers please take note the lights are now fully functional and they can be used for practice particularly on Thursday nights no excuses now for lack of practice.

Saturday night twilight bowls for interested members again this week with names by 5.30pm for a 6.00pm start, so come down enjoy the atmosphere and companionship the club has to offer. Have a game of bowls no experience necessary, Mufti dress.

This weekend will see four players from Guyra represent the Guyra Club at District level. Three in the District Singles and Ron McLeod in the Senior District Singles good luck fellows.

Pennants kick off in a couple of weeks with the No 2’s going to Gunnedah both Saturday March 6 and Sunday March 7.The No7’s will play at Armidale City Saturday March 6 and will travel to Glen Innes Sunday March 7.

Bowlers will be advised of travelling arrangements and cost as soon as possible.

Pennant teams are on the notice board, so check for your name and the grade of Pennants you will be asked to play.

Just a reminder the Courtesy Bus will not be running this weekend.

The three selectors after the meeting on Tuesday night February 16 are Dale Smith, John Jackson and Scott Campbell. The match Committee is the same make up as the Selectors.

Until next week good bowling and good health.
