Bowls action hots up

09 Nov, 2009 02:57 PM
Saturday October 31 saw the Final of the Alex Jackson Open Winter Singles played between John Jackson and Dan Kennedy this game was hard fought by both players however Dan had the upper hand all game and as a result ran out winner.

Also played was a game of Major Singles played between Ivil Reid and Ron McLeod, Ron came from behind to defeat Ivil in an enthralling afternoon of bowls.

A game of Minor Singles was also played between Jim Souter and Robert Moore, I don’t know much about this game but for the result as far as I can ascertain Robert defeated Jim.

No score cards at hand at the compiling of this report so I apologise for not giving the scores.

Saturday afternoon saw the first two rounds of the Cadbury Schweppes Elimination Singles contested, after the dust had settled there emerged four two game winners going into the third round Sunday.

Sunday November 1 saw the third round played and after the end of play only two players had three wins. These two players then ventured back onto the green to play off for the Elimination winner. The players were Steven Sole and Barry Presnell. Steven was away to an early break one he never at any stage let slip despite Barry’s determination to make a game of it. The final result was Steven 25 to Barry 11 over 19 ends. Well done to both players.

At this point I would like to, on behalf of the match committee and the carnival committee thank the ladies for their efforts in marking the Elimination games. The ladies make themselves available every year and their commitment is gratefully appreciated.

Thursday Night saw the first night of Twilight bowls played and it was pleasing to see the number of bowlers who turned out to play, the winners for the night were Betty Wilson and Ron McLeod.

On the notice board is a sheet asking for any member interested in playing Twilight Bowls to place their name on it. This competition is open to all comers and will commence, Thursday October 29, starting time will be 6.00pm. So come along and enjoy an evening of bowls, even if you are only a novice.

I have been asked to mention that Saturday Twilight Bowls will commence this Saturday Night November 7. All interested members and visitors are to have their names on the sheet provided on the notice board by 5.30pm for a 6.00pm start, so come and try something new and have an enjoyable evening.

The match committee have asked me to list up coming Club events. The calendar of events is designed to assist bowlers in making themselves available on the date listed. In teams games it is the responsibility of the skips to make sure that their team is complete other wise they are responsible for finding replacement players and not the match committee. Failure to have a complete team at the time of play will result in a forfeit to your opponent. Also all bowlers are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure that if they are unavailable to play bowls that their name is on the away board. Failure to do so and you are boarded for a game then the game will be a forfeit to you’re opponent.

The calendar of events are:

Sunday November 15: Final of Club Fours.

Bowlers please keep these dates handy so that you can meet your commitments.
