Plans for a new sporting complex for Guyra are well in hand and if all goes according to plan the slab for the new clubhouse will be laid before the end of the year.
While the project seems to have ‘gone quiet’ lately, considerable discussion and background work is continuing between the Guyra Sporting Complex Association (GSCA) and Guyra Shire Council. The GSCA are looking to have the Development Application lodged within a few weeks with a view to commencing the project as soon as funding is made available.
While no official advice on a grant application made under the Community Building Partnership program has been received they hope to have favourable advice during the month of November.
Once the funding is confirmed it will be all systems go according to President Darrin Towells.
“It is pleasing that all the major sporting clubs in town have come on board,” he said. “Over recent months we have put in a lot of groundwork so that when we get the go ahead everything will be ready.”
Plans have been drawn up by Brain Watts Drafting Services, with the clubhouse to be constructed on the western side of Lions Park. It will include change rooms, canteen, bar and an undercover area.
This is the first stage of the upgrade which will eventually see the fields at Lions Park play host to all major sporting codes in Guyra.
“This will be a great boost for Guyra’s sporting community,” said Mr Towells. “We are still looking for more input and encourage anyone who has suggestions or ideas let us know.”
The GSCA is hopeful that the new complex will be ready for the start of the winter sporting season in April next year.
