Sporting complex slower than expected but things are moving

With funding announced by Richard Torbay prior to Christmas allowing Guyra’s new Sporting Complex to proceed, Guyra Shire Council and the Guyra Sporting Complex Association (GSCA) have been busy finalising several aspects of the complex.

The whole site has now been surveyed so as to allow the exact location of the critical elements such as clubhouse, lighting towers, fields, irrigation and drainage.

“Although we are slightly behind time on construction, it is important to make sure that we do this properly the first time so as not to have to change things half way through construction and run into more costs,” said GSCA President Darrin Towells .

“I am sure that we are building a functional complex that all Guyra residents will be proud of,” Darrin added.

Brian Watts drafting have prepared final drawings of the club house layout (pictured). It is anticipated the improved facility will help attract higher level representative rugby league and rugby union games to Guyra.

Fundraising continues to be vital to the success of the project. This Sunday February 14 the GSCA will be holding a 3BBB Golf Ambrose at the Guyra Bowling and Recreation Club. Darrin is urging all sports people and residents to support the complex by supporting this day. The day will start at 10am and the cost is $20 adults or $15 for juniors.

“Heaps of great prizes have been donated and we thank all the sponsors for their very kind donations, which will be acknowledged on the day,” Darrin said.

Lunch is included so why not come along and support the day.

On April 10 the night of all nights has been organised with Tommy Raudonikas and Artie Beetson. Pencil this date in your diary and we will let you know more closer to the date.
