The Guyra sporting community has recognised the need for dedicated sporting facilities and has joined forces to develop a new sporting complex. The Guyra Sporting Complex Association (GSCA) has been formed to construct and administer a premium sporting facility in Guyra.
The association is made up of representatives from the Guyra Rugby League, Guyra Rugby Union, and Guyra Junior Rugby League. A meeting was held, a committee formed and constitution agreed upon.
Executive elections were held and Darrin Towells is president, Jason Campbell is vice president, Dan Brown treasurer and Lucas Brown secretary.
Directors are Norm Williams, Grant and Peta Waters, Terry Vidler, Sue Towells and David Wilcox. If you would also like to join this committee please contact one of the members listed above or Lucas on 6779 1131.
The location of the complex was considered at several locations and GSCA decided that a community forum should be called so that the community has input regarding this venture.
Letters have been mailed out to people from Guyra and further afield inviting input into the project, with the list including officials from CRL and NSW Rugby as well as politicians and community stakeholders. The community meeting is the public’s chance to have input into the planned sporting complex and everyone is welcome.
The GSCA propose to develop a sporting complex and a clubhouse at Lions Park north Guyra. A clubhouse has been designed and drafted courtesy of Brian Watts Drafting Services. These plans will be available for viewing at the GSCA public meeting July 16 at the Guyra Bowling Club at 3.00 pm
Fundraising initiatives are planned and the first function will be a “Battle of the Codes” evening with special guests Tommy Raudonikis and John ‘Knuckles’ Connolly debating the merits of each code, the hot topics and telling a yarn or two.
There will be a dinner and memorabilia auction. Tommy and Knuckles are supplying memorabilia from their private collection as well as a signed Wallaby jumper and a signed Gold Coast Titans jumper to be auctioned. If anyone would like to donate some memorabilia please contact one of the committee members or drop it into Highland Hire Guyra.
Another fundraising initiative is holding meat tray raffles Thursday nights at the Royal Hotel, with all proceeds going towards the GSCA.
An invitation is extended for other sporting clubs to join the GSCA committee. If your club can see the benefit of having a purpose built sporting facility please join us by contacting any of the members of the GSCA.
The GSCA have been granted proposal support from the Guyra Shire Council which means the Guyra Shire Council have agreed that the construction of a premium sporting facility is commendable and they are supportive of the formation and objectives of the GSCA. To RSVP for the meeting please contact one of the committee members of Lucas on 6779 1131.
