Pathology New England - a business unit of the newly formed Pathology North Pathology Service - carries out pathology testing for all of the Northern Sector of the Hunter New England Area Health Service.
With the support of local GP Dr Jeyakumar and the Acting Health Service Manager Felicity Wardle, Pathology New England will be conducting 2-hour clinics on Tuesday and Thursday of each week at the Guyra MPS.
Hours will be 8am to 10am. The service will be based at the Guyra MPS in one of the clinic rooms, and is available to all patients with a valid request form from their doctor. Patients will be registered at the front desk and then ushered in for their blood collection.
Until now, Guyra patients have either had their blood collected at the local surgery or had to drive to Armidale to have a procedure that can often take as little as 10 minutes.
Pathology New England Operations Manager Neil Horton said,”We are pleased to offer this service and thank Dr Jeyakumar and Felicity Wardle for their support of this new initiative. Endorsed Enrolled Nurse Deborah Heagney has spent the last few weeks in intensive pathology training to undertake her new duties and will be supported by other nurses as they are trained.
“As with all our services, patients will not be out of pocket as we ‘bulk bill’. And who knows, with the support of medical practitioners and the local community, this service could well be expanded as time goes on.”
The new service began operation on Tuesday February 9.
