Night for youth at Rotary

16 Feb, 2010 10:32 AM
Rotary District 9650 organises a variety of training courses for young people including RYAG (Rotary Youth in Agriculture) for cattle, dairy, sheep cotton and horses. It also conducts and annual public speaking competition.

Over the current Rotary year four of Guyra’s youth have participated in at least one of these activities and on Wednesday February 3 Guyra Rotary Cub held its first “Youth Night” when the four participants were the guest speakers.

Held at Café Blackboard the venture proved to be entertaining and informative. Each speaker summarised personal history and future plans and followed that with a report on how Rotary experience had contributed to their development.

Stephanie Martin talked about her involvement in the Public Speaking competition. Luke Wolfenden, Samuel Sisson and Elle Noon spoke of the RYLA courses they had attended.

Questions were asked of each speaker by the audience which has made up of Rotarians, parents who had accompanied the speakers and other guests of the club. Conducted in an atmosphere of friendship and joviality it was most enjoyable.

Guyra Rotary is currently exploring another youth initiative called RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) – a seven day live-in program for young adults aged 18-25 years aimed at leadership and personal development. Already two applications are being processed. Further applications can be initiated by ringing 6779 1529.
