This funding adds to more than $138,000 already in kitty through state government grants this year.

Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay welcomed the new funding announced by Regional Development Minister Phil Costa.

“The Ebor community has shown enormous initiative in taking a united approach to pursue its five year plan to upgrade infrastructure and promote the town for tourism,” he said. “This marketing of its natural heritage sites, history and attractions through the web is an important part of the strategy and it’s good to see the government providing this support.

“Ebor’s success comes from the dedicated work of its community groups including the Progress Association, the Sport and Recreation Reserve Trust, the Ebor Lions and the Rural Fire Brigade.”

Last week Mr Torbay met with project leaders Terry Larsen and Lorraine Osborne to present a certificate from the NSW Environmental Trust marking the $88,275 grant announced in April.

The grant is to assist with the restoration and conservation of three kms of the Guy Fawkes River and 200 ha of public land on the village boundaries. Work includes restoration of lagoons, bird sanctuaries, wetlands, riverside grassbeds and woodlands. A board walk from Ebor Public School across the wetlands and a shared 3kms pathway through the common will allow controlled public access to the area.

Earlier this year the town was also successful in its application for a $50,000 from the Country Halls Renewal Fund to build a new community hall at the local sports ground.

“For a village with such a small population, the results being achieved are really remarkable,” Mr Torbay said.
