Our local Pyrotechnician, Fr. Anthony Koppman (Holysmoke) is working on a spectacular Australia Day weekend fireworks display that will make everyone in Guyra proud to be Australian and he promises he will put on smile on the faces of young and old alike.
After the recent national publicity of our own “pyro” resident, Father Holysmoke is planning something very special for the Guyra residents and visitors.
“As a proud resident of Guyra, I am going to do my best to give something that I love doing to everyone in this town,” he said.
“This is what Australia Day is all about, to share your gifts and skills and to cheerfully give something of yourself to the community to share.
“I am a proud Australian and I am delighted to do my bit for our Guyra Community.”
This year the event will be held at the Guyra Showgrounds, starting with the Movie Cars II. After the movie at about 9.30pm the sky over Guyra will light up in a spectacular display of colours and effects that Holysmoke says will make us all ‘proud of who we are’.
A lot of work behind the scenes is been put into this display so that everyone of all ages can experience what our larger towns and cities often have.
As everyone is aware, with fireworks come noise and Holysmoke has made a special appeal to make sure everyone has safely taken care of their pets before coming to the showgrounds.
“Domestic animals don’t always like the noise of fireworks so it is very important to take the responsibility to care for your pets before leaving home,” Fr Anthony said.
He will do what he can to limit the amount of noise and work as much as possible to focus on providing more colours and special effects than noise.
Entry is free to the movies on Friday and Saturday nights and of course to the Guyra Australia Day free fireworks display on Saturday night at approx 9.30 pm after the movie. Thanks to the Guyra Shire Council for their generous sponsorship of this great community event. So let’s show our support for our community and come and enjoy a great family evening under the stars and celebrate our nation.
