Presentation was held at the Guyra Bowling and Recreation club on Saturday and it was a great day that attracted a huge crowd to support and see our young league players receive over $4200 worth of shirts and trophies. Enclosed in this report are our main award winners in each age group and once again I congratulate them for the manner in which they have played this year.
We have had a very successful year on and of the park and the sponsorship we have received this year has been terrific .I would like to that our jersey sponsors for this year, Guyra Recycling, Quebob Finance, Jamie Myer Fights Promotions, Guyra Smash Repairs, Guyra Bowling and Recreation Club, Guyra Fuel, New England Credit Union and Sportspower Armidale. This support has meant that all the teams had new jerseys for this year and they will continue to be used for many years to come.
Our presentation day was also hugely supported by sponsors and with out them we would not be able to give away the value of gear that we do. New England Autos, McLeod Butchery and Atkin Wool sponsored out shirts whilst Cafe 627, High Country Pizza, McLeod’s Butchery, Luke Burey and Grant Waters and Guyra Welding Works sponsored the great looking trophies. I would also like to that Mrs Noreen Williams and family for donating arguably the most prestigious trophy we award ‘The Bill Williams Memorial Trophy Under 16’s Players Player’. As well on the day we had a raffle with donated prises and I would like to that Kirks IGA, JD’s Hair studio, Guyra Phamacy, gG’S of Guyra and some fantastic rugs made by the ladies at Kolora.
I have no doubt that Guyra Junior Rugby League has the best team of committee people and workers behind it out of all Group 19 and this is a massive reason for our success. Our committee, Suzanne Towells, Natalie Cox, Peta Waters, Scott Mendes, Tim Ellis, Aileen Roberts and Lisa McCormack all work very hard and I thank them very much. James McCormack and Grant Waters also do an enormous amount for the club and I would like to acknowledge that and say thanks. To all the people that worked in the canteen the club says thanks, and to anyone in general that has helped out throughout the year, thanks.
Possibly the most important group of individuals to thank are our terrific coaches that put a tremendous amount of hours into training and game days, Ike Roberts, Jamie Williams, James McCormack, Demeille Landsborough, Peter Johnson, Grant Waters, Luke Burey, Grant Waters and Greg Brazier, the club thanks all of you for everything throughout the year. To our leaguesafe people a big thanks also.
The annual general meeting of the Guyra Junior Rugby League will be held at the Guyra Bowling and Recreation Club on the 9th November starting at 10am and all are welcome. We need to keep moving forward and in order to do this we need new people to get involved, if a lot of people help out there is not that much to do and it is very rewarding ,as well you get to meet a lot of good people from our club and others.
In closing 2008 was a very successful year for Guyra Junior Rugby League and we all need to start work to ensure that 2009 is as good, if not better.
Darrin Towells-President.
