In conjunction with this week lamb sale at the Guyra saleyards the annual Prime Lamb Show and Sale was held. 2500 lambs were yarded in a show of stand out quality for local producers.
The champion pen of lambs belonged to George and Dot Vickery of “Canoona”. They weighed 46.4kg and sold for $125. Judge Jock Dalzell of Woolworths said the yarding was a credit to the producers in what had been a difficult season.
“Choosing a winner was extremely difficult, however the winning pen were extremely even in all aspects,” he said. Coming a close second to win the Reserve Champion ribbon were a pen of lambs shown by Darcy and Mary Wilkinson which sold for $122.
President of the Guyra Associated Agents Mark Atkin congratulated all the producers who had sent lambs in for the show for the standard of the yarding. For Show Society President Rita Williams, the presentation marked the start of many such events which will take place this weekend. “Preparations are well in hand for the Guyra Show and this year we have some great attractions which should keep people of all ages entertained,”she said.
The Show will be opened on Friday night by former Rugby League player Shane Webcke and local league fans will have a chance to meet a legend of the game.
