Student Representative Council
This has been a very exciting week. Guyra Central hosted the Regional Student Representative Council Meeting with students and teachers from all over the region in attendance.
Student Representative Councils play very important roles in developing student leadership skills. Presently at the school we have leadership skills being achieved . The junior SRC has already completed several major projects and are presently looking at a gardening program.
Other opportunities that students took part in this year have been leadership camps and forums.
World Record Attempt
This Friday students from K-11 will be participating in the Guinness Book of Records for a world record attempt doing the Human Wheelbarrow and walking the distance of 50 metres. This will also be an opportunity for all public schools in the area to celebrate public education. It will be a very exciting day. Last Thursday Anthony Kelly from Duval High School gave a demonstration to the students.
Agriculture
On Wednesday and Thursday students will be participating in the Hoof and Hook competition at Glen Innes. The school will be showing two steers. A great deal of time and effort has gone into preparing students for this competition. James Saunders and Allison McCabe have been up at the school teaching students skills and techniques that will help at the competition. The steers themselves look great and this is due to the support given by Supreme Stock Feeds and Howard and Rhonda Sanderson who provided hay and feed. Many thanks to Mrs Ballard who has spent a considerable amount of time preparing for this competition.
The 2009 School Certificate exams start next week. Good Luck to all students sitting these exams.
