Despite cool conditions over the school holiday’s numbers attending the Guyra Swimming Pool are well up on last year. The main reason is the upgraded heating system which was put in place at the end of last season which means the water temperature is now maintained at a constant 26 degrees.
Pool manager Randy Mulligan has noticed the benefits already and is looking forward to a bumper season.
“We don’t have to worry about the temperature dropping when we get a spell of bad weather,” he said.
“Already I noticed repeat visitors, despite the cool conditions we had last week.”
Aqua aerobics with Michelle Fittler will commence next week with two sessions already scheduled for Tuesdays at 9.30am and Wednesdays at 6pm.
Swimming lessons are also in demand with local instructor Lorraine Brazier already having more than 100 kids enrolled for this season. During the school holidays the Department of Sport and Recreation will also be conducting classes, and local schools due to commence their programs soon. Swimming Club will also commence shortly.
“Hopefully we will have fewer interruptions, because we can guarantee the water temperature,” said Randy.
“It is also a great place for social occasions with a free BBQ available for parties or get togethers and the new lighting means you can stay after dark.”
Plans are also in hand for the giant inflatable to be at the pool on a regular basis which is always a great attraction for the kids.
The pool is open from 10am to 6pm on all weekdays, as well as 6.30am to 8am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for lap swimmers. On weekends and public holidays the opening hours are 10.30am to 5.30pm.
