Guyra Seniors will benefit from funding of $800 for Seniors Week activities. Six projects in the Northern Tablelands will share a total of $3,170 in state government funding announced this week.
Senior’s Week will be held from March 21-28 and includes social, cultural and information activities for older people.
The funding includes
• $400 to Armidale Dumaresq Council for its ‘Live Life- and See Your Region” project
• $800 to Guyra Council for its annual lunch and information day Celebrating Health Senior Highlanders
• $600 to the Gwydir Council for the Bingara Home and Community Care Seniors Ball
• $300 to the Inverell Combined Pensioners Club for its Live, Life, Learning project
• $870 to the Lions Club of Tenterfield for its Mystery Tour
• $400 to the Uralla Senior Citizens and Pensioners Association for a Luncheon and Concert.
“It’s great to see government support for these projects,” said Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay.
“Seniors Week is a major event on the calendar and the number of activities offered increase each year.
“Seniors continue to contribute enormously to the community as volunteers.
The Week is an opportunity to recognise their service and thank them for what they do, to have fun at social events and to provide forums for them to discuss issues and receive information about services and educational opportunities that are available.”
The MP said he would continue to press the government to allocate more funding for events in all centres in the Tablelands in the future.
