Have you noticed the fabulous displays in our main street shops? Guyra business people have put a great deal of effort and creativity into highlighting this year’s Lamb & Potato Festival.
Mayor Hans Hietbrink and Pam Mepham had the hard task of judging the winner, who receives a prize of $200. The judging was based against four main criteria:
1. Creativity and originality. Did the display use items other than what was handy in store and put on display? Was there some degree of creativity in the choice of items to create a theme?
2. Effort. How much effort was put into making the display? Did it appear to have taken quite a bit of time or was it something that could have been put together in a few short minutes?
3. Appeal. Did the display draw the pedestrian to the window to have a long look and spend time viewing it?
4. Impact. How well did the display promote the Lamb and Potato Festival?
“We commend the businesses that joined in the competition and thank them for putting a display in their shopfront,” said Mayor Hans Hietbrink.
“Some of the displays were very well put together and, while it was difficult to make a final decision, the window display at The GALA Centre was considered the best in that it met all of the above criteria.
“The display was creative and original in that it displayed some interesting history of the Lamb & Potato Festival, as well as presenting a theme based on lamb/wool and potatoes. It showed that a considerable amount of effort had gone into the creation and assembly of the display and it attracted passing pedestrians and caused them to stop and read the displayed material as well as viewing the items on display,” Mayor Hans concluded.
