Black Mountain School News

Welcome back to everyone at Black Mountain Public School for a very exciting term 4 2008.

All the fantastic programs that run at our school will continue in Term 4, including the Homework Centre, the Active After School Care Program, and Transition.

Throughout 2008, the Transition program for students starting Kindergarten in 2009 has been running at the school every second week. This term the students will be attending school every Thursday as they prepare for Kindergarten next year. The Black Mountain Transition students are ready to commence work on the very first day that they attend kindergarten as they know all of the routines and what is expected of them when they attend school. It is also a great chance for the teachers to get to know the students before they start school. If you are interested in enrolling your child into our Transition class please ring the school on 67750192.

There is great excitement at Black Mountain as the school’s Interactive Whiteboard and Video Conferencing facilities have arrived and are in use. The students have already started using the facilities which brings their education very much into the 21st Century. Schools out west have used their facilities to link with astronauts from NASA in a live video feed with students from all around the world, all asking questions in real time from astronauts. Many schools have linked with other schools across Australia, and also in different countries, through the NSW Department of Education and Training’s Connected Classrooms Project. It certainly is very exciting for all of the students at the school.

The students at Black Mountain have been working very hard learning the choreography for the items that they will be participating in as part of the Tamworth CAPERS concert. Last term they travelled to Tamworth for a massed dance rehearsal, and they are very excited about their upcoming performance. CAPERS involves over 2,000 students from public schools in the New England region, and performances are on Friday and Saturday, November 7 and 8. Tickets are available from the Tamworth Tourist Information Centre.

Congratulations to Liam Halmi and Jaydon Gaddes who were the latest Star Students of the Week at Black Mountain. Both Liam and Jaydon are excellent students.
