A Science Revolution at Guyra Central School
Work is progressing very well on the new Science facility as it finally takes shape with the frames being erected this week. It will be such an asset to have a state of the art, modern facility to expand the delivery of a broad range of science programs at the school.
As part of the Australian Government Building Education Revolution, refurbishment of the existing science rooms is also anticipated to be completed before proposed finalisation by the end of May. The school is currently investigating a proposal to enhance and modernise our existing agricultural / science facilities which, if successful, will be a huge boost to the school.
On a beautiful day, Guyra played host to Bald Blair and Black Mountain Public Schools and St. Mary’s School for the combined Primary school swimming carnival. It was a very successful event and I thank all of the students who participated for their sportsmanship, encouragement of each other and the pride they displayed for their school and sports house groups. Sporting events such as this carnival provide a great opportunity for the community of schools to come together in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry and competition.
From the many successful Guyra Central competitors, a team was selected to represent the school at the Armidale Regional carnival on February 19. I wish the Guyra team every success for this event and I feel assured that they will do our school proud on the day.
Special thanks to Mr Alletsee for his thorough organisation for the Guyra carnival and the upcoming events
At the Primary Assembly, every student, and indeed the entire audience, was enthralled while our very talented Mr Boyd completed a piano rendition of Bach’s Sonata in C in 48 seconds. Congratulations Mr Boyd in meeting the challenge under the 55 second limit; the significance of which he explained to the children and then had them time him.
We are so very fortunate to have such an incredible musical talent in our school. Mr Boyd currently teaches music across the whole school and his enthusiasm, passion and expertise is winning our students over to a love of music. His expertise in over thirty musical instruments is such a fantastic asset to our K to 12 music program.
Also at the Primary assembly, two Year 6 students, Robert Mulligan and Georgia Tierney were inducted in to the Primary Student Representative Council (SRC). The Primary SRC for 2010 are: Year 3 Ella Atkin and Braydon Cameron, Year 4 Thomas Morgan and Danielle Sutton, Year 5 Reagan Duguid and Kelsie Youman. The SRC is very capably led by led by our captains Madeline Atkin and Ben Mc Cormack. These students assume a very important responsibility as student leaders and positive role models within the school and the community.
