St Marys swimming carnival
23 Feb 10 | Last Friday St Mary of the Angels held their school Swimming Carnival at the Guyra Swimming Pool. All students K-6 attended along with many parents.
Exciting week at Black Mountain School
23 Feb 10 | What a very exciting week it was at Black Mountain last week – a week full of learning both inside and outside the classroom. On Thursday the primary students travelled in to the Guyra Swimming Pool to attend the Guyra Central School’s primary swimming carnival.
A Science Revolution at Guyra Central School
23 Feb 10 | A Science Revolution at Guyra Central School Work is progressing very well on the new Science facility as it finally takes shape with the frames being erected this week. It will be such an asset to have a state of the art, modern facility to expand the delivery of a broad range of science programs at the school.
23 Feb 10 | Environmental Trust funding of $196,564 has been allocated for remedial projects in the Northern Tablelands. Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay welcomed the grants of $98,594 for the Citizens Wildlife Corridors Armidale and $97,970 to Southern New England Landcare. (SNELC).

23 Feb 10 | In conjunction with this week lamb sale at the Guyra saleyards the annual Prime Lamb Show and Sale was held. 2500 lambs were yarded in a show of stand out quality for local producers.
Back to school- A Family Affair
16 Feb 10 | Kylie Dornan joins son Jake in starting school for 2010. Kylie has entered Year 11 as a mature age student with the intention of completing her HSC in 2011.Kylie joins her son Jake in preparing for each school day as Jake has just commenced Kindergarten at Guyra Central School.
Local farmers join protest
16 Feb 10 | While numbers at last weeks protest rally fell short of the number that visited Canberra in 1984, the property rights issue will not go away according to local grazier Robert Gordon.
Scout Hall working bee
16 Feb 10 | On Saturday eleven energetic and keen workers descended on the Scout Hall to begin renovation work. The object for the day was to scrap as much of the external walls back and begin painting. Those present even surprised themselves as to how much they achieved in between rain showers.
50 years ago -The little boy lost and found
16 Feb 10 | Guyra resident’s who bought their copies of the Guyra Guardian on February 11 1960, were keen to follow the exploits of a little boy who got lost in the bush and whose adventure (much to his later chagrin) thrust Guyra into the national spotlight.
16 Feb 10 | Community spirit is alive and well in Guyra, with dozens of volunteers set to gather at the town’s Multi Purpose Service for a ‘super’ working bee. The working bee will be held on Monday March 1, with a number of projects on the to-do list including spreading mulch, dividing plants and replant areas of the garden.
16 Feb 10 | The popular New England history and folklore course recommences at University of the Third Age, Armidale next Thursday, February 18, with a discussion about old-time local murders.
16 Feb 10 | Rotary District 9650 organises a variety of training courses for young people including RYAG (Rotary Youth in Agriculture) for cattle, dairy, sheep cotton and horses. It also conducts and annual public speaking competition.
Sporting complex slower than expected but things are moving
16 Feb 10 | With funding announced by Richard Torbay prior to Christmas allowing Guyra’s new Sporting Complex to proceed, Guyra Shire Council and the Guyra Sporting Complex Association (GSCA) have been busy finalising several aspects of the complex.
Summer reading club
16 Feb 10 | Prize winners in Guyra Library’s Summer Reading Club, during the school holidays, were awarded their prizes by Council’s General Manager, David Cushway on Tuesday afternoon.
Op shop ready to open
16 Feb 10 | A new Op Shop will open in Guyra next Wednesday February 17. The shop is being operated by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) from the Seventh Day Adventist Hall in Aboomala Street and will be open every Wednesday and Thursday from 10am til 3pm.
