19 Aug 10 | Guyra’s Anglican community has welcomed a new Minister. Martin Symons has taken over the reins at St James Anglican Church and despite having only been in town for two weeks is already feeling part of the community.
Unflued heaters out before next winter
19 Aug 10 | Guyra district schools will be among the first in the state to have their unflued gas heaters replaced. Guyra Central, Ben Lomond, Bald Blair, Black Mountain and Ebor have been included in a priority list to have the heaters replaced before next winter.
All hands on deck
19 Aug 10 | New England Mutual is donating $2,000 towards the new Guyra Sporting Complex (GSC) at Lion’s Park where work is expected to begin with the next week or so. GSC Association President Darrin Towells outlined the details of the $126,000 venture at last week’s NEM breakfast in the town.
Residents take fight to Boundaries Commission

Recognition for youth week program
12 Aug 10 | YABBY Chairperson Guyra’s Heather Sills has collected the award for Most Outstanding Youth Week Program for small council which was awarded to Uralla Council.
Tim Coates in Guyra
12 Aug 10 | Tim Coates, the Nationals candidate for the Federal Seat of New England, called into Guyra this week along with his wife Judy. Tim visited with a number of Guyra business people and was able to discuss employment issues associated with current and proposed industrial relations laws.
Enrol now for some pre-school fun
12 Aug 10 | The commencement of transition at local primary schools have resulted in an opportunity for pre-schoolers to take advantage of a number of vacancies at the Guyra Pre-school and Long Day Care centre.
12 Aug 10 | A cocktail party and auction at SportUNE raised $30,000 to support two annual scholarships at the University of New England in memory of Sarah Heagney, who died in a car accident in January.

New equipment for MPS
12 Aug 10 | Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay says the Guyra Hospital Auxiliary’s contribution to the local hospital and the town is invaluable. Last week he attended the Auxiliary’s meeting in Guyra where Treasurer Diane Walls’ report showed the organisation had raised $13,200 during the last 12 months.
12 Aug 10 | Community anger at the proposed formation of a New England Regional Council is on the increase and a group of concerned residents have decided that strong public action needs to be undertaken by the community to ensure the survival of the Shire.
12 Aug 10 | Guyra councillors remain confused as Uralla have put up yet another proposal to try to avoid a forced amalgamation. The model was an adaptation of Guyra’s shared administration model and offered a 60/40 split in the agreement with Uralla taking the majority shareholding. A workshop on Monday rejected the model as being somewhat hypocritical.
A sad day as CWA move on
12 Aug 10 | It was a sad day for members of Guyra CWA last Friday when they met for the last time at their Nincoola St headquarters. Financial considerations have forced members to make the difficult decision to sell the hall. An aging membership and increasing costs made it difficult to raise the funds for the upkeep of the hall.
