17 May 12 | The Guyra Super Spuds and Spudettes continued their love affair with their new Red Hill complex when they put the cleaners through Warialda to the tune of 100-0. In three games these are the scores. A Grade 72-22, Reserves 40-12, 64-0, 56-0. Ladies Tag 46-18, 38-0 and 44-0. Total 360 for 52 against. The Ladies Tag 128-18 and the Retro Reggies 160-12.
17 May 12 | Round five of the Hockey New England competition hit off on Saturday with 3 of the women’s teams in action. 2nd grade continued their great start to the season dominating classics gold 10 nil. The team was minus coach Anthony Bull so knew a good performance had to be put in or else!
17 May 12 | Another win for Braden Sole this time in the Zone 3 Junior Singles played at Manilla, on Saturday May 5. Braden played Dillon Wells of Manilla in the Final defeating him 31 – 26. Braden will now represent Zone 3 in the State Junior Championships at Warilla on July 9, he will be one of the last 16 juniors in the State and our best wishes go with him in this endeavour.
17 May 12 | The Caspers travelled to Armidale to do battle with last year’s grand finalists Demon Knights. This was always going to be a tough battle with D.K only managing three draws from their previous matches and needing a result to stay in contact with the front runners.
17 May 12 | Negotiating the steep and slippery decline to the “City of Armidale” for the first time this season, many of our junior sides acquitted themselves remarkably well, coming away with some great wins. Unfortunately due to work commitments I was unable to watch any of the soccer this week.
17 May 12 | GUYRA youngster Huw Knox put in outstanding performances at a prestigious inter-schools competition in Sydney last weekend, setting a school record in the process.
17 May 12 | Northern Tablelands sheep producers are welcome to attend a free sheep industry update at the Glen Innes Agricultural Advisory Station on Thursday May 24. NSW Department of Primary Industries sheep and wool officer, Chris Shands, said breeding whiter and softer wool to suit growing market demand, wild dog management strategies and marketing approaches for wool and lambs are on the agenda.
Local Charolais Studs outperform at Beef Week in Rockhampton
17 May 12 | Glenlea and Jackson Charolais had stellar performances in Rockhampton last week at BEEF 2012. Glenlea sold two heifers in the Special Sister Sale. Glenlea Elsa 43rd, a polled red factor, 20 month old Charolais heifer sold for $9000 and was purchased by repeat Glenlea female buyers Tony and Suzie Farrell from Lismore NSW.
SES Commissioner visits Guyra Volunteers
17 May 12 | The Commissioner of the New South Wales State Emergency Service ( NSW SES), Murray Kear, visited volunteers in Uralla, Armidale and Guyra on the weekend. Commissioner Kear said that the volunteers of the NSW SES had experienced a particularly busy summer, with nearly 70 % of the state suffering flooding earlier this year.
17 May 12 | The summer of 2011/12 for Guyra was the coolest for 28 years. Over the three summer months of December, January and February the average maximum temperature was 21.0C, the lowest since 1984.
17 May 12 | Guyra was well represented at the Annual AusVeg Conference held in Hobart last weekend. Present was Godfrey Dol, Glasshouse manager at Blush Tomatoes and a member of Industry Advisory Committee that directs Research and Development expenditure for the vegetable industry
17 May 12 | New England Rural Crime unit are currently investigating the theft of five rifles from a rural property about 10 kilometres to the east of Guyra on Green Hills Road.
17 May 12 | Guyra Lions Club have once again pledged support to the Guyra MPS by running a raffle to raise funds to purchase two new manual Blood Pressure machines (pictured) and a full size range of cuffs for use with the machines. The prizes for this raffle are 1 tonne of wood or hand made rug donated by Mrs Dorrie Walls, the choice will be yours.

17 May 12 | As part of their Social Media Policy Guyra Shire Council are now making use of both Facebook and Twitter to interact with the community. It is part of an overall effort to improve communications, which also includes regular updates of their website and email distribution lists.
Tenterfield looks to Guyra MPS for answers to  health care needs
17 May 12 | A GROUP of residents, shire councillors, health professional and volunteers from Tenterfield have visited Guyra to inspect the town’s multipurpose health service (MPS).
14 May 12 | The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.
10 May 12 | It was great to see 23 players turn up in Glen Innes on the weekend, for the second round of Rugby. The club struggled to get numbers in the pre-season, and now look to have a competitive team on the field. The Ghosts were too good for Albies, coming away with a 71-5 win.
10 May 12 | Another healthy home crowd gathered to watch the Caspers do battle with old rivals Glen Innes in what was a rematch of last year’s grand final. The Guyra boys knew they would be in for another 90 minute struggle against a very fit, physical and talented team.
10 May 12 | The Spuds were blown away when the Hawks flew out to lead 18-0 in the first six minutes of kick off. The Super Spuds actually did a great job to reel back the deficit to 26-24 and the defining point in the game was when Guyra grubbered the ball on the tryline and regathered and were certain to score when the referee gave Inverell the ball in a glaring mistake. Add on an astonishing 8-1 penalties and Guyra were continually on the back foot.
Busy weekend for Junior League
10 May 12 | Saturday saw Moree come to play at Guyra. Unfortunately Moree didn’t bring Under 8s, but the under 10s and Under 12s played their best. As most of you know Darrin and myself are President and Secretary and with no Under 16s it has been difficult following both Guyra and Armidale.
